Who are we?

Who We Are

Ghana Badminton is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of badminton in Ghana. We are responsible for all aspects of the sport, from grassroots participation to elite performance on the international stage.

Founded in 1962, we are a member-based organization that represents, coordinates, administers, and develops the sport in close cooperation with government authorities, development partners, and our dedicated community.

Our Vision
To be an inspirational and accessible sport for every Ghanaian.

Our Mission
To govern, grow, and innovate in the sport of badminton, providing a world-class experience for all players, coaches, officials, and fans.

Our Strategic Plan: Mission 2027
Our strategic plan, “Mission 2032,” outlines our ambitious vision to turn Ghana into a true ‘Badminton Nation’. Relaunched in February 2023, it sets bold targets across the entire sport—from achieving success at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games to strengthening our clubs, developing a world-class coaching workforce, and getting more children playing in schools.

What We Do as the National Governing Body

As the NGB, our work is focused on protecting, developing, and promoting badminton across Ghana.

  • We Represent everyone in the Badminton Community: We are the collective voice for badminton in Ghana, representing our members at the government level and ensuring the sport’s interests are heard.
  • We Protect the Sport: We safeguard children and vulnerable adults through robust policies and work to provide insurance protection for every affiliated club and member.
  • We Create Pathways: We manage the pathway from community badminton to the national team, selecting and managing teams to represent Ghana at African, World, and Multi-Sport events like the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
  • We Grow the Sport: We organize a wide range of programmes, technical courses, and tournaments. We manage a structured coaching pathway and work to secure more courts and playing time for clubs and players.
  • We Govern the Sport: We manage the rules and regulations, including anti-doping and equality policies, and implement a governance framework to ensure the sport is run fairly and effectively.
  • We Provide Competition: We sanction events and work to provide a national calendar of tournaments for players of all levels, alongside a national ranking system.

Our Guiding Principles

Our work is underpinned by five core values that guide our decisions and actions:

  • Connected: We bring together all aspects of badminton in Ghana, creating a single, collaborative community.
  • Innovative: We foster a culture of innovation, embracing digital technology to engage and grow our audience.
  • Inclusive: We actively work to break down barriers, ensuring badminton provides opportunities for all, regardless of age, ability, or gender.
  • Respectful: We treat every member of our community with respect, both on and off the court.
  • Open: We are honest, transparent, and accountable in everything we do.
